Parkinson’s affects nearly 1 million people in the United States, and although though no case of Parkinson’s disease looks exactly alike, there are broad paths of similarity that have been observed in individuals with the disease. Those diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease may have trouble walking, talking or handling daily activities that require movement. Their voluntary movements become slower (a symptom called bradykinesia), and they may experience tremors in their limbs, face and hands, as well as rigidity in joints and muscles. However, symptoms are not limited to problems with movement – other symptoms include sleep disruptions, anxiety, depression and dementia. Though there is no known cure for Parkinson’s, we believe the disease can be improved at every stage through specialized, person-centered care.
