COMMUNITY UPDATE | 9.2.2020

On September 1, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed executive order No. 20-009 allowing visitations in Assisted Living Communities. This order is a positive step toward re-opening The Club to visitors and this exciting news also comes with significant guidelines the community and visitors must follow.

We will be asking each resident or representative to identify two (2) compassionate care givers, two (2) essential care givers, and five (5) general visitors. A resident may be visited by one (1) such visitor at a time. The definitions are as follows:

  • Essential Care Giver: Those who have been given consent by the resident of his or her representative to provide services and/or assistance with activities of daily living to help maintain or improve the quality of care or quality of life for a resident. Essential Care Givers provide bathing, dressing, eating, an/or emotional support.
  • Compassionate Care Visitors: Those who provide emotional support to help a resident deal with a difficult transition or loss, upsetting event, or end-of-life scenarios. Compassionate Care Visitors may be allowed entry into the community on a limited basis for these specific purposes.
  • General Visitors: Must be 18 years of age or older and must follow the communities’ policies and procedures regarding visitations. Each resident may designate up to five (5) general visitors and may be visited by no more than two (2) general visitors at a time.

We will be requiring all visitors to go through infection control training provided by the community before any visitations can be made. We will be scheduling this training with family members shortly.

We anticipate allowing visitation to commence on Monday, September 24. This will give the community adequate time to comply with the requirements established in the Governor’s Executive Order. We thank you for your patience.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 8.31.2020

We continue to have no resident cases with COVID-19 and only one team member with positive results who remains quarantined at home.

Additionally, Palm Beach County Commissioners are meeting to discuss Palm Beach County direction to enter Phase 2 of Florida’s reopening. We will pass along any pertinent information as we receive.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 8.28.2020

Today, we continue to have no resident cases with COVID-19 and only one team member testing positive.

The following is a brief overview provided by the Task Force on the Safe and Limited Re-Opening of Long-Term Care Facilities to Gov. DeSantis’ as their recommendations as to who qualifies and protocols to follow.

  • Essential Caregivers (EC): Provide or assist with ADL’s to help improve quality of life. Include in the plan of care/service plan.
  • Compassionate Care Visitors (CC): Allowed on a limited basis as an exception to restricted visitation, to provide emotional support (i.e., end of life, major upset, difficult transition or loss).
  • Community Requirements:
    • Community will establish policy and procedures for EC and CC visits. Residents will designate at least one EC and allow no more than five designated visitors. Community shall set a limit on total number of visitors, develop a schedule, work with resident and EC/CC to define an agreeable schedule.
    • Provide infection control training, allow evening and weekend visits, maintain visitor log. No resident visits if the resident is quarantined or if the resident is COVID-19 positive or symptomatic unless the visit is for compassionate care.
    • EC and CC will comply with community COVID-19 testing protocols, with visits in the resident’s room or designated areas.
  • General Visit Requirements:
    • Visitation requires community to have 14 days with no COVID-19 cases.
    • Schedule visitations by appointments only with required screening and education on infection control/PPE requirements.
    • Community may perform or require visitor testing.
    • Visitors must be 18 years or older.
    • Residents may have up to five designated visitors, no more than 2 visitors per visit with time limit to length of visit.
    • Strongly encourage outdoor visitations and require all parties wear face mask and sign consent form understanding visitation policies.
    • If the resident tests positive, the community must cease all indoor and outdoor visitations (EC and CC are still permitted).

Additional details about The Club’s policies and procedures are forthcoming. For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

As the State of Florida requires, there is mandatory testing of all team members, employees and healthcare workers of assisted living and nursing home communities, with required repeat tests every two weeks. Please know the health and safety of our Club family is of the upmost importance and we will continue following all State and DOH guidelines for the unforeseen future.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 8.12.2020

All residents except one have tested negative — we’re awaiting the final test results this week. There continues to be two team members out with positive results and who are quarantining at home.

Once more, we are maintaining strict screening protocols of all individuals who visit, work at or reside at The Club. This week alone, we have turned away three healthcare providers due to not having a test completed within the past two weeks.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 8.10.2020

Three team members have received two consecutive negative test results and have been cleared to return to The Club. Two other team members with positive results are quarantining at home, and one resident who is positive is residing in a controlled area at the community.

As a reminder, no healthcare provider can enter The Club without a negative test within two weeks of coming into our building. We will keep you apprised of any new cases or changes to the requirements by the State or DOH.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 8.7.2020

We have the results from the tests conducted on Monday and Tuesday. Out of the 57 tested, three team members who were previously positive are now negative, and we have one new positive. This individual is being retested, and we have been in touch with all residents and families who may have been exposed to offer COVID testing, which is being done today.

Additionally, there is one resident with positive results residing in quarantine at The Club; three other residents who formerly were positive cases are now testing negative and are awaiting their latest test results. Again, we are maintaining that all team members and residents who test positive must receive two consecutive negative results before resuming their previous roles, activities, interactions at the community.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 8.5.2020

The Florida Department of Health visited today and The Club received a clean report with no recommendations for improvements. We continue to maintain strict protocols, following the guidelines set forth by the State of Florida and Department of Health.

On Monday and Tuesday of this week 57 team members were retested, and we’re anticipating the results on Friday. We have no additional positive results to report — there remains three residents with positive results and recovering; four team members who remain quarantined at home.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 8.3.2020

Our community continues to see the same outcomes as reported on Friday, July 31st — three residents with positive results and recovering; four team members who remain quarantined at home. We will be conducting our regular testing this week of all team members and will keep you apprised of any new developments.

On another positive note, we’re all grateful the community received no damage or impact from Hurricane Isaias. All team members reported to work over the weekend without issues or loss of power. It was a productive dry run for future storms, as our Club team worked diligently in preparation for the worst.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 7.31.2020

We celebrated the recovery of one resident, and remain encouraged that our efforts so far have resulted in no additional confirmed resident cases. We continue to have four team members with positive results who are quarantining at home and who will not return to The Club until they receive two consecutive negative test results.

With cases regionally and nationally still on an upward trajectory, there are approximately 31,598 active cases in Palm Beach County. All community-wide reopening proposals continue to be on hold by the Agency for Health Care Administration and The Florida Department of Health.

Turning our attention to the impending weather conditions, we’re closely monitoring Hurricane Isaias and its potential impact to The Club over the coming weekend. We have made all the necessary preparations, including ensuring the generator is on standby for power loss. In this instance, we will maintain daily operations, which include full meal service and A/C in all residents’ apartments.

NOTE: If power is lost and/or phone lines go down at the community, check here for updates.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 7.29.2020

One of the four residents who tested positive is now testing negative — one remains in the hospital and two are remaining in their rooms on the second floor. We continue to have four team members with positive results who are quarantining at home and who will not return to The Club until they receive two consecutive negative test results.

The CDC and Florida Department of Health have begun to distribute rapid tests to skilled nursing facilities for team members and potentially for visitors. At this time, we are unsure if assisted living communities will receive; however, this is promising news and we pass along additional information as it becomes available.

Next week we will resume our routine testing of team members, per the State of Florida mandate to conduct testing at nursing care and assisted living communities every two weeks.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 7.27.2020

We continue to have four team members with positive cases — two were retested last week. There still are two residents with positive tests who continue to remain in their rooms on the second floor and are being retested this week. As such, the second-floor team members are continuing unchanged and all use full PPE equipment.

The Club is maintaining the CDC and the Florida Department of Health guidelines and protocols to ensure the safety of our residents and staff.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 7.24.2020

As of today, we have five team members with positive cases — two have since retested negative; one has not worked at the community since July 10th. Four of the five have been retested either yesterday or today. We also have two residents with positive tests who reside on the second floor. They are remaining in their rooms and will be retested. The second-floor team members are remaining the same and each will continue to use full PPE equipment.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the virus is thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

The Club at Boynton Beach is following strict CDC and the Florida Department of Health guidelines and protocols to ensure the safety of our residents and staff.  These measures include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for isolation precautions, including masks and face shields throughout the community.
  • Screening all residents and monitoring them for symptoms and fever throughout the day.
  • Screening all employees for symptoms and fever immediately upon entrance; employees with any symptoms will be sent home immediately.
  • Outside visitation is restricted to only end of life situations and visitors will be screened and not allowed to enter if they have any symptoms or fever.
  • Continue to prohibit communal dining and activities outside the room.
  • Frequent disinfection of surfaces, equipment, resident rooms and other areas of our building.

We will continue to follow the guidance of the CDC and all relevant federal and state agencies. For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

COMMUNITY UPDATE | 7.22.2020

As of today, we have received word of additional results from the July 17th testing, with two team members being positive with COVID-19. Both individuals have not been to the community since July 10th and have previously tested negative. Additionally, two residents are currently in the hospital with Pneumonia — one tested positive at the hospital; the second tested negative while at The Club and later positive at the hospital. We are awaiting five test results for other resident tests.

The second-floor team members are remaining the same and each will be using full PPE equipment. All team members were retested this week on Monday and Tuesday — per the new guidelines set forth by the State of Florida that requires mandatory testing of all employees of assisted living and nursing home communities every two weeks. We will provided updates of any new cases or changes to the requirements by the State or DOH on this page.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

As of Friday, there are two team members who tested positive and are currently quarantined at home. They will not be allowed to return until they have received two consecutive negative tests. Over the weekend, one resident tested positive and is currently in the hospital.

As we continue to maintain and enhance our health and safety to all Club residents, team members and families, we have put additional measures in place to mitigate the spread of the virus. As such, second floor team members will remain the same and each will be using full PPE equipment.

We’re continuing to retest all team members today and tomorrow, per the new guidelines set forth by the State of Florida that requires mandatory testing of all employees of assisted living and nursing home communities every two weeks. We will keep you apprised of any new cases or changes to the requirements by the State or DOH.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Burns at  Jim.Burns@theclubatboyntonbeach.com.

We have received updated results from the July 8-10 tests by Curative Laboratories and have confirmed two team members have tested positive. As a result, all nursing team members are being retested today. All team members at The Club will be retested next week, July 20-22, per the new guidelines set forth by the State of Florida that requires mandatory testing of all employees of assisted living and nursing home communities every two weeks. We will keep you apprised of any new cases or changes to the requirements by the State or DOH.

We are following the new guidelines set forth by the State of Florida that requires mandatory testing of all team members and employees of assisted living and nursing home communities every two weeks. Our next round of team member testing will be conducted July 22-24. We will keep you apprised of any new cases or changes to the requirements by the State or DOH.

No healthcare provider will be allowed in the building after July 10 without documentation of a negative COVID-19 test. We are working with our stakeholders to accomplish this without a break in services.

The first impacted team member last worked from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, and the second team member last worked Thursday, June 4. Both associates were wearing appropriate personal protective gear. At this time, they will remain self-quarantined and will not return to the community without two negative test results.

There are no known cases of COVID-19 amongst the residents.

The Health Department will be on property Monday, June 8 at 1:00 p.m. to test all team members and residents. Residents will need to consent to the test. For those residents who cannot consent, we will be calling their Power of Attorney for consent.

Our community has been operating under a strict screening protocol for all residents and team members to check for symptoms and require all to wear surgical PPE masks as an added precaution. Residents’ temperatures are checked twice daily. Team members’ temperature checks are conducted twice during every shift, and each is required to complete a thorough COVID questionnaire and sanitize hands when entering. A team member with a temperature of 100.4 or over is immediately sent home.

We will continue to follow these strict procedures in addition to ongoing deep sanitation of all areas of the community.

Important policies to note:

  • Visitors: Visitors are not allowed at the community and family members can bring essential supplies to be dropped off with a team member outside the community.
  • Dining: The dining room remains closed, and residents are receiving all meals via delivery to apartments.
  • Residents Remain in Apartments: During this time, residents will need to remain in their apartments. If they leave, we encourage each to wear a mask.
  • Masks: All associates are always required to wear surgical PPE masks while at the community and residents are encouraged to wear masks when outside their personal apartments.

To keep communication open and transparent, we will provide timely updates and notices via email and on this webpage. We are taking every step as recommended by the CDC and the Florida Health Department to contain the spread. Our top priority is to reassure our residents, their families and our dedicated team members that we are on top of the situation, and their health and safety is of the utmost importance.

CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS | 6.5.2020

We have received a number of questions from family members about what steps we are taking at The Club at Boynton Beach in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19). This is an important issue and one we continue to take very seriously.

Our focus is to ensure residents have accurate information and guidance on how they can best protect themselves. We have implemented a number of new policies to help mitigate any potential impact on them and our community.

The biggest changes you may notice include:

  • Restricting visitation to essential personnel. No visitors will be allowed at this time, including family members. Resident on Hospice may have visitors.
    • If you would like to request to greet a loved one by waving from the parking lot, please give The Club a two-hour notice and call 561.771.7104 to schedule.  We kindly ask you to avoid requests during breakfast, lunch or dinner time.
  • Stopping transportation to outside activities and events. We will still transport for healthcare related reasons.
  • Minimizing large internal group events and activities.
  • Eliminating external groups from visiting or holding events at The Club.
  • Implementing a more intensive cleaning schedule of key common areas, elevators, railings, etc.

Anyone allowed to enter the community must wear a face mask, must pass a series of questions, must wash their hands and have their temperature taken. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or over will not be allowed to enter.

We have an internal response team in place to monitor our efforts and stay abreast of the latest developments. We also have an experienced and knowledgeable clinical team at The Club. In addition, we are working closely with our corporate clinical experts and receive daily updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local/state health authorities.

We do not yet have a time frame for how long these preventative measures will be in place. The information about COVID-19 is evolving and we will adapt our policies and protocols as new information and recommendations are reported. Please watch our website and Facebook page for regular updates or contact me directly at the email below if you have any questions or concerns.
